    PARADISE FOR VEGETARIANS

Richard Sterling, a famous American food and travel writer, wrote a beautiful article about green food in Việt Nam, published by Asia Life Sài Gòn magazine. Is it possible to find any good vegetarian fare in the city? Fortunately it is, now more than ever. 20 years ago, vegetarian fare was the norm as a matter of necessity. There just wasn't a lot of meat on the market. Where meat was available, it was expensive and most folks couldn't afford it every day. However, with the arrival of economic development and relative prosperity, it is now on most people's daily menus. Green food is never far away. And in keeping with Buddhist tradition, many Vietnamese people go veggie on the 1st and 15th of each lunar month. If you are looking for green food, just look for the word "chay". If you see that word featured on a restaurant, it's all vegetarian. If you see it on the menu, that dish is vegetarian.
